Production / availability

Intel is
quite fuzzy about its dual-core Nehalem with IGP, codenamed Havendale, as it now says that some people might see it in Q4 2009, while the general public and retail market should be able to buy one in Q1 2010.

There have obviously been some delays that Intel doesn’t want to point out, but according to the latest business plan, the production of Havendale CPUs should start in Q4 2009. When a company say Q4 this usually means late Q4, while retail availability is expected in Q1 2010.

Intel hopes that it won’t be too late with business and retail cycles in Q1 2010, but we all know that most of the sales are done in Q4; and therefore Intel will certainly miss some of the opportunities. Naturally, Intel is delaying its production as it has to, not because they like to, and business-wise it would make sense as much as delaying a highly expected movie or a game for after Xmas. Q1 usually means that people are cashless, as they tend to spend incredible amounts of money for the Xmas shopping spree.

Fusion, AMD’s answer to Havendale CPU with IGP, is most certainly going to happen in 2010; but we suspect it might be even later than Intel’s Havendale.

Havendale works with P45, and the chipset will be ready as of Q3 2009.
