The Foundry will do 32nm SOI CPUs

The company confirms
Contrary to our previous report, The Foundry Company will do Silicon on insulator in 32nm manufacturing process. We believed that SOI stops at 45nm. The Foundry Co. boys will continue to use SOI for its CPUs in the new 32nm FAB, as this is the way to go, at least this is what company sources have told Fudzilla.
Intel obviously wants to stay away from SOI as it doesn’t like the burden that this process brings, but AMD traditionally has much better yields than Intel as AMD has only one and sometimes two operational fabs and needs to get the maximum out of it.
Naturally, you can imagine that after 45nm Deneb / Shanghai and variations, AMD will move to 32nm CPUs and this will probably be based on Bulldozer, a brand new completely redesigned core. Intel’s first 32nm core is Sandy Bridge and this 32nm baby is a shrunk and tuned up version of Nehalem; but Intel plans a brand new core in 2011, if all goes well.
In 2010, the Foundry Co. should be able to manufacture both bulk and SOI silicon and theoretically in Bulk AMD should be able to manufacture even its chipsets and other chips. TSMC definitely won’t like it, as it means less business and more competition for it as of 2010.
We wonder what the real name of the Foundry Company might be. Fusion anyone?
