Nintendo has officially announced the launch date for the Nintendo Switch 2, which will launch on June 5, 2025, at a suggested retail price of $449.99/€469.99. The new system promises to offer an enhanced gaming experience with powerful hardware, innovative features, and a range of exciting new games, including faster CPU and GPU, 1080p 120Hz screen, updated Joy-Con 2 controllers, new Gamechat feature, and more.

The new Nintendo Switch 2 is based on NVIDIA's custom SoC, and while details are scarce, Nintendo is promising faster CPU and GPU performance, as well as more storage, 256GB, and has support for only microSD Express cards, which have faster data reading speeds than previous microSD models. It is built around a larger 7.9-inch full-HD display with a 120Hz variable refresh rate. Nintendo also announced updated Joy-Con 2 controllers that offer new ways to interact with games, including the ability to use them as a mouse in compatible titles. These controllers attach to the console magnetically, adding convenience and versatility. The new Dock will bring 4K 60fps gaming, and it will include a fan that should keep the Switch 2 well-cooled.

“Nintendo Switch 2 represents the next step in gaming, bringing new ways to play and connect,” said Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo. “This system is the culmination of eight years of innovation, and we believe it will continue to bring smiles to our users.”

In addition, Nintendo also introduced GameChat,  a new online feature that allows players to engage in voice and video chats with friends during gameplay, where up to 12 players can join a GameChat session, with up to four sharing their screens. The mysterious new C-button is used for GameChat, and Nintendo is also bringing the new camera with the Switch 2.

Along with the system, Nintendo is offering bundles and accessories, including the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle, priced at $499.99. This bundle includes the console and a download code for the Mario Kart World game, available starting on launch day.

At launch, players will be able to enjoy titles like F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and SOULCALIBUR II, with improved image quality and resolution. Nintendo also plans to release a GameCube-inspired wireless controller for online members.
