Foxconn shifts gears as Nvidia's GB300 server demand explodes

AI server gold rush trumps smartphone season in Taiwan's supply chain

Nvidia's Blackwell GB300 AI servers are shaking up the production lines in Taiwan, with contract manufacturers ditching their usual priorities to chase the new silicon gravy train.

Foxconn has landed the biggest chunk of GB300 orders, with Quanta, Wiwynn and Inventec all jostling for a piece of the action. Shipments are pegged for the second half of 2025, with Foxconn expecting a smooth transition from the previous GB200 systems thanks to shared architecture.

The GB300's top-tier configuration comes with 72 Blackwell GPUs, making it the most powerful AI server platform in the world, at least until someone cooks up something even more obscene.

Supply chain insiders say the mad dash to deliver these AI systems is now a bigger priority than other high-profile tech products, highlighting just how central AI kit has become to the manufacturing landscape.

Quanta has already started shipping GB200 servers and is currently putting GB300 units through customer trials, targeting a September release. Wiwynn and Inventec are working to a similar schedule.

With server volumes expected to balloon in the second half of the year, these firms are eyeing serious market share gains. Quanta’s management isn’t counting on customers waiting around, despite GB300’s improved muscle, because AI companies are in a constant rush to feed their models.

Meanwhile, high prices and tight supply have created an opening for rivals. Custom chips from Amazon, Alphabet, and designers like Broadcom and Marvell are all being explored as alternatives.

Still, Nvidia is brushing off the threat. Its top brass insist that when it comes to performance, nothing else comes close and for now, the industry seems happy to keep paying a premium for the privilege.
