Lenovo shows off bizarre rotatable laptop and smart stand

Concept kit appears at Innovation World 2025

Lenovo has wheeled out some truly oddball kit, including a laptop with a spinning screen and a smart stand that stalks its user.

Both are only concepts, but we already saw hints of them after the rumour mill started buzzing earlier this week.

The laptop is the ThinkBook VertiFlex Concept with a 14-inch display that rotates 90 degrees. The panel pivots independently of the lid, so you can use it in portrait for scrolling through endless documents or back to landscape when you get bored.

Portrait mode could be useful for coders, writers or anyone wanting to mirror their smartphone on a bigger screen.

Lenovo says the ThinkBook VertiFlex is slim and light, weighing 1.39kg and measuring 18mm thick. That’s about all the detail we get, since this is an early proof-of-concept device and not ready for primetime.

The other gadget is the Lenovo Smart Motion Concept, which despite being a stand is apparently too clever to be called one. It uses the laptop’s camera, microphone and other sensors to track the user’s position. Lenovo claims it has "auto-facial tracking" so the machine can keep itself aligned with your face. Voice control is supported, and there is even an ‘AI ring’ for waving at it like some sort of tech wizard.

There are plenty of fancy control gimmicks, but until anyone sees it working properly, it’s little more than a flashy prop.

No word on when, or if, either of these contraptions will ever make it to market.
