To be available in three different versions, the MARS 980 STORM, MARS 980 BLADE, and the MARS 980 PRO, these will be aimed at different user needs and scenarios. The MARS 980 SSD series from XPG will use the Silicon Motion SM2508 SSD controller paired up with 3D NAND and offer sequential read and write performance of up to 14,000MB/s and 13,000MB/s. The 4K Random read and write performance peaks at 2,000k and 1,650k IOPS.
The MARS 980 STORM will offer maximum performance with a hybrid cooling system, combining liquid and air cooling, along with a vertical, symmetrical dual-fan setup. Such a cooling system is said to offer up to 20 percent lower temperatures compared to traditional fanless heatsinks. According to XPG, this one is aimed at gamers, enthusiasts, and content creators.
The MARS 980 BLADE is a cooling-free, laptop and Playstation 5-ready version, while the MARS 980 PRO will offer an optimal balance between high performance and value, combining aluminum heatsink with an active fan, which is said to bring 15 percent lower temperatures. It is also optimized for Playstation 5.
