HTC unleashes crippled One S on unsuspecting EU public
Powered by 1.7GHz Snapdragon S3
Like we said in our review, HTC did a pretty good job with its mid-range One S handset, clad in a thin ceramic shell and powered by a snappy Qualcomm S4 chip.
However, for some reason HTC has started shipping a new version of the One S in Europe. Dubbed One S C2, the new-old phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor clocked at 1.7GHz rather than the 28nm S4. The rest of the spec remained unchanged.
The C2 is already available in select EU markets, but oddly enough it costs about as much as a proper S4 with a Krait chip, or about €450. In other words there is really no reason to get one unless HTC offers it quite a bit cheaper than the S4 version.
