According to the ever-reliable kopite7kimi on X, the 5050 is shaping up to be a repackaged RTX 3060. If true, Nvidia is essentially trying to flog old tech in a shiny new wrapper, hoping customers won’t notice.
While that might be fine for gamers on a tight budget, it doesn’t excite anyone who was expecting a proper next-gen entry-level card.
It is now confirmed that the RTX 5060 Ti will feature two memory specs, both GDDR7 and 128-bit-based but with different capacities. The 5060 Ti will be available in 16GB and 8GB configurations. Furthermore, the RTX 5060 Ti is expected to be a 180W TGP model, confirming previous rumours. Kopite clarifies that the card uses the PG152 board design and will use the GB206-300 GPU with 4608 cores. This is 256 cores more than the predecessor (RTX 4060 Ti).
Interestingly, the RTX 5050 will use the same board, confirming that it will use the smaller GB207-300 GPU. This confirms that both GPUs are pin-compatible, and we may see similar designs across the RTX 5060/5050 series.
According to the leak, the RTX 5050 is a 130W TGP model, which is 50W less than the 5060 Ti and 15W less than the supposed RTX 5060 non-Ti, which Kopite does not mention.
The biggest unknown is the price, which will ultimately determine whether this thing sinks or swims. If Nvidia gets too greedy, punters will likely look elsewhere, especially with AMD and even Troubled Chipzilla making inroads into the budget GPU market.
The RTX 5070 has already failed to impress, so Nvidia can’t afford to drop another dud.
