Although it has been introduced earlier this year and already tested in some of Eurocom's notebook systems, Eurocom has now announced availability of the Radeon HD 6970M module packed on MXM 3.0b PCB. The HD 6970 is a nice boost from the previous HD 5870M and we guess it will start showing up in various systems pretty soon.

In case you missed it, Radeon HD 6970M is based on AMD's 40nm Blackcomb XT GPU with a total of 960 Stream Processor Units, which is in Eurocom's case packed on the 12-layer MXM 3.0b PCB. It is clocked at 680MHz for the GPU and features 2GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 3600MHz and paired up with a 256-bit memory interface. The feature list includes support for DirectX 11, UVD 3, HDMI 1.4 and DisplayPort 1.2 outputs.

Eurocom markets this module as a solution for satellite imaging, mapping, surveillance, medical imaging, digital signage, image recognition, robotics, small form-factor computers, but we guess that we'll see it in a few more notebook designs as well.

According to Eurocom's specification details, the Radeon HD 6970M is enough to score P3420 in 3DMark Vantage and just short of 30 FPS in Unigine Heaven 2.1 benchmark. The TDP of the Radeon HD 6970M sits at 75W so it will definitely need some serious cooling in that cramped up notebook chassis.
