Ignore law firm threats
P2P cease and desist is a virus
You have to hand it to malware writers they really know how to make someone's day. Millions of people have received an email claiming to be from a small legal firm Crosby & Higgins saying that it has filed a lawsuit against you.
It provides an attachment of a copy of the lawsuit which charges you with copyright theft and details of a pre-trial meeting you are supposed to attend. It says that Lumberton Trading Company has proof of multiple Copyright Law violations that they wish to present in court on April 10th, 2010.
It all seems plausible. The firm exists and music and film companies are suing everything that moves. However the email is a fake and if you download the attachment you get infected with a particularly nasty bit of malware. The outfit has had to change its website and is fielding inquiries from loads of people who have been getting the email.
