Sony has pulled a surprising move and bought Media Molecule, the makers of LittleBigPlanet.

The move is frankly puzzling. While the outfit made one hit PS3 title it has very little else to its credit. True LittleBigPlanet has scooped most of the awards in the known world, but there are no guarantees it will repeat the performance.

Sony said that the team has "exciting projects in the pipeline" and it will be telling us about them soon. It is common for a big software house to eat up a smaller one but usually only after it has proved itself with more than one game. It must be that Sony has seen what Media Molecule is up to and thinks that it has the talent. 

It also wants to make sure that its games only go on the PS3.
