Infineon cosies up to AMD for a slice of the edge AI action

HYPERRAM is the new cheap and cheerful memory fix

Infineon decided to wave a flag today by saying AMD has put its 64 Mb HYPERRAM memory and matching controller IP through their paces for the Spartan UltraScale+ FPGA SCU35 Evaluation Kit.

The outfit insists its HYPERRAM controller IP speeds up development by giving engineers a ready-made host memory interface they do not have to cobble together themselves. Infineon claims the mix of Spartan UltraScale+ FPGAs and HYPERRAM produces a sturdy platform for tasks that need I/O expansion and board management.

Infineon senior director of ecosystem marketing Patrick Le Bihan said: “The combination of our HYPERRAM memory and controller IP with AMD Spartan UltraScale+ FPGAs delivers a powerful platform that helps accelerate time to market for our customers.”

He said: “We provide a system solution for embedded AI applications at the edge by delivering features and capabilities that meet the most important requirements of our customers.”

AMD director of product marketing Evan Leal said: “Working with Infineon, we can provide developers with a streamlined, high-performance memory solution that simplifies their design process.”

Leal said: “AMD chose HYPERRAM to enable a balance of performance and low power consumption with modest pin usage requirements. Infineon’s total solution of hardware and IP helped enable AMD to bring the SCU35 Evaluation Kit to life quickly and enables customers to do the same in their own designs.”

Infineon says its 64 Mb HYPERRAM memory is already integrated and its controller IP licensed for the SCU35 kit. The memory is pitched as a neat blend of performance, density, and low power consumption, while the controller IP interfaces with the MicroBlaze V soft-core RISC-V processor.

The Spartan UltraScale+ FPGA SCU35 Evaluation Kit can be ordered now and is supposed to ship in January 2026. Infineon’s HYPERRAM parts and controller IP are also on sale for anyone who fancies a dabble.
