Users fume as file explorer crashes and folders vanish

Software King of the World Microsoft's latest patch for Windows 11 version 24H2, KB5051987, has sparked widespread frustration.

Five days after its release on Patch Tuesday, reports have flooded Vole's help forums and Reddit, with users describing a range of crippling issues. Users report major system failures, including broken File Explorer, missing folders, and installation nightmares.

File Explorer refuses to open, desktop folders won’t load, and saving Office documents or downloading files has become a Herculean task. Even clicking on a folder icon leads to a dead end, with users staring at empty subfolder menus.

Some users say they can’t even install the patch, with the update stalling for hours before spitting out an error message. Others have reported bizarre glitches, including faulty Taskbar preview animations, camera failures, and a stuttering mouse.

One user even claims their laptop’s battery life has been slashed from six hours to just 2.5 after installing the update.

ZDNet slammed Microsoft’s handling of Windows 11, saying the tech giant “keeps running into brick walls” as every new fix introduces fresh problems.

While KB5051987 was meant to resolve security vulnerabilities and glitches affecting digital audio converters, USB cameras, and passkeys, it appears to have caused more harm than good.

Windows 11’s 24H2 update, launched last October, has been a nightmare from the start. It contains a slew of known bugs that Vole has yet to iron out.
