Promises to avoid delisting

Nvidia's chum, Super Micro Computer (SMCI) has reported preliminary second-quarter results below its previous guidance while reaffirming its commitment to submitting delayed regulatory filings in time to avoid delisting.

The server manufacturer and Nvidia (NVDA) partner anticipates second quarter revenue of $5.6 billion to $5.7 billion, marking a 54 per cent year-over-year increase but falling short of its prior guidance range of $5.5 billion to $6.1 billion. Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) are projected between 58 cents and 60 cents, also below previous forecasts.

Super Micro expects third-quarter revenue between $5 billion and $6 billion, with adjusted EPS ranging from 46 to 62 cents. For the full fiscal year, the company has revised its revenue outlook to $23.5 billion to $25 billion, down from earlier projections of $26 billion to $30 billion.

CEO Charles Liang remains optimistic, stating that these developments position the company to reach $40 billion in revenue by 2026, driven by strong demand for its data centre infrastructure solutions.

Supermicro intends to submit its overdue financial reports for the 2024 fiscal year by Nasdaq’s February 25 deadline to avert delisting.

The company's financial reporting delays have triggered concerns about its accounting practices. However, an independent special committee’s December investigation concluded that it "did not raise any substantial concerns about the integrity of Supermicro's senior management."

Following the announcement, Supermicro’s shares initially declined but later surged over 8 per cent in extended trading on Tuesday. Despite this recovery, the stock had lost more than half its value over the past year, leading to Tuesday’s close.

On February 10, CFRA upgraded Supermicro to Buy from Hold, setting a $48 price target. The firm expects the company’s margins to recover to the mid-teens and sees potential market share growth due to its fast development and expanding product lineup.

CFRA highlighted SMCI’s strong position in liquid cooling and its advantage with Nvidia’s Blackwell B200 rack solutions, strengthening its leadership in AI infrastructure.
