Intel expects thin and light notebooks to take a 20 percent market share in the consumer PC market in Q4.
Erik Reid, Intel's
director of mobile marketing, says demand for such notebooks will continue to rise beyond this point, but he stopped short of giving a shipment target for the new CPUs used in such systems.
Reid claims Intel has quite a few design wins, and in addition to already announced models, it expects around 15 new models to appear in about a month. Obviously, we will see even more models towards the end of the year.
Reid is also optimistic about the PC market in general, saying sales are doing reasonably well, and that notebooks are becoming indispensable in people's lives.
"Notebooks and the Internet
are really becoming indispensable in people's lives," he said.
Talking about netbooks, Reid said that he doesn't expect sales to be hurt by new thin and light notebooks. Intel sees netbooks as secondary devices for undemanding tasks, and these two form factors address different market needs.
