Imation is launching what it is calling the smallest 8GB flash drive with an ultra-compact design. The new Imation 8GB Atom flash drive is about the size of a small paper clip, checking in at a bit less than 1.5 inches long and about .5 inches wide, and it weighs less than an ounce.

The Atom features a black and aluminum finish and uses the Imation SIP (System In a Package) module to allow it a smaller foot print than was previously available. The Atom is fully compatible with Microsoft’s Vista ReadyBoost technology.

The drive will be offered in capacities from 1GB to 8GB with prices ranging from US$17.99 to $99.99, depending on the size. The drive is available now through authorized Imation retailers.
