Segway is claiming that sales of its geek scooter are soaring as petrol prices in the U.S. go through the roof.

U.S. Riva Motorsports sold almost 200 in 2006, 250 in 2007, but this year it has already sold 175. A spokesman said that anything that seems to be economical on fuel or doesn't use fuel at all, people are definitely researching and buying.

Other dealers are reporting that they sell the daft devices as soon as they arrive in the shop. Apparently, people have stopped yelling 'Dork!' and are now shouting, 'How much does that cost?'"

The Segway's $5,000 price tag and the fact that it was featured in Weird Al Yankovic's parody "White & Nerdy" in 2006 are probably the biggest limits on its popularity.
