Sources close to these notebook vendors have projected multiple times to expect a "sweet spot" around $599 to $699. However, as vendors continue working on cost reduction strategies, it seems likely that ultrabook ASPs could reach as low as $799 by Q2 2012.
As of now, the bulk of ultrabook ASPs arise from the high costs of SSDs, which is still tenfold higher than traditional hard disk drives. Additionally, vendors claim that custom-made ultrathin LCD panels and related display components are another significant obstacle to driving down costs.
Ultrabook prices unlikely to hit "sweet spot" until 2013
