The IT skills shortage is the worst than it has been for years, according to a new study. The study, by Robert Walters group, has found a buoyant market for qualified, experienced and skilled candidates, with rates moving up for salaried employees and contractors.
Steve Gillingwater, the head of the Robert Walters IT recruitment team told the New Zealand Herald that employers need to realize the power has shifted over the past two years to the candidate. If there is a good candidate they will get multiple job offers and it comes down to which client impresses them most.
Generally, that means that employers have to offer things like flexible hours and ongoing training. SAP projects are finding it hard to attract enough people and are paying a lot of money, the survey found.
