Could Nintendo already be ready to release a redesigned 3DS? It seems that rumors from the Land of the Rising Sun suggest that this could be the case. We know that Nintendo is planning a pre-event for the Tokyo Game Show, but we are not sure exactly what that all might be about.

If rumors are true, the redesigned model will be stripped down somewhat over the first 3DS, but it is hard to really imagine how they could strip that might out of it. Suggestions are also indicating that Nintendo may launch this as a separate unit to the 3DS with an even different name.

Nintendo has shown new products at TGS before, even if they were not officially attending the show. Of course, Nintendo is still reeling over the fact that the 3DS has not been as successful as they hoped, which led them to slash the price on it. Software developers are taking a wait and see attitude toward the unit, and the 3DS really needs software. It could be that Nintendo sees this as the best way to get more units sold and into the hands of consumers.
