Qualcomm and Lenovo showcased the world’s first 5G PC at Computex. The PC is based on Qualcomm’s 8cx platform and comes with additional 5G connectivity. Lenovo calls this design "Project Limitless", based on world’s first 7nm platform purpose-built for PCs.

Google has reportedly lots three of its key hardware engineers that gave the iPhone A series chip its edge. Manu Gulati, John Bruno and Vinod Chamarty waved Google goodbye, the departure caused by the lack of Google’s ambition to build a serious mobile SoC platform. Apple will have an easier time to complete, now.

Qualcomm announces 75 5G designs

Late 2019, early 2020 high-end mobile chips will be 7nm

TSMC has announced that it is doing a test production of 5nm EUV chips, but real production starts in 2020. A long-term investigation leads us to believe that most chips launching in the latter part of this year or early next year will, unlike the UK, remain on 7nm.

Cristiano Amon, President of Qualcomm, just announced that the Snapdragon 8cx Always-Connected PC platform will get a 5G version. The Snapdragon 8cx SoC is matched with the Snapdragon X55 modem to support SA, NSA, and up to 7Gbps downloads speeds.

Xiaomi Mi 9 SE is first with Snapdragon 712 SoC
Smaller screen, similar camera, and lower price
While Xiaomi Mi 9 is the star of the show, the company has also unveiled a smaller Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, which will be the first smartphone with Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 712 SoC and come with a smaller screen, under-display fingerprint scanner, and similar triple rear camera setup.

2019 is the year of real 5G and companies like Qualcomm are enabling at least 20+ operators, 20 OEM building 5G partners and 30+ commercial 5G products to launch. The X50 was announced in 2016 and shipping to partners for a while and will enable the first wave of 5G devices. Snapdragon X55 is enabling the missing features and complementing the 5G offering.

Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 8cX

Qualcomm's Sanjey Mehta, SVP and General manager of compute products, and Miguel Nunes, senior director of compute products, introduced and showed off a few features of the Snapdragon 8cx, a SoC that many called Snapdragon 1000 or 8150/8180. This is a SoC built from the ground up with a bigger Adreno 680 GPU, still fanless and with a lot of new tricks.

Snapdragon 855 has a joker card that brings it significantly ahead of the competition of all 7nm players in the Android market. Gary Brotman, a senior director of product management focused on AI, dropped a bomb on the competition confirming that the 4th generation AI platform from Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 is twice times faster than its 7nm Android based competitor.
