A few more details on Intel's next gen Atoms have popped up on HKEPC,
and it seems we won't get a massive performance boost. However, Atoms
were never about performance, but rather mobility, and the new two-chip
platform will take it to the next level.
The new platform will measure 773mm
2, almost a three fold
reduction compared to the current three-chip Atom platform with 2174mm
2. The CPUs
themselves will still run at 1.66GHz and feature Hyperthreading, but
more importantly, they will feature integrated graphics and a memory
controller, making a two-chip platform possible. The average power
consumption was reduced from 4W to 2W, and the TDP for the N450 was
dropped to 7W, compared to the N270's 16W. The new Atoms will be
coupled with the NM10 chipset.
Two of the new chips, the single-core D410 and dual-core D510, are
designed for nettops, while the N450 is to be used in netbooks. All run
at 1.66GHz, but the IGP on the nettop D410 is clocked a bit higher than
on the N450, resulting in higher power consumption.
The D510 and N450 are set to appear in Q4, while the D410 should launch early next year.
