Side by side
Lynnfield quad-core at 2.93GHz will be a direct competitor
to the soon-to-launch Core i7 950. This gives us a strong hint that the Core i5 brand
might not materialize, at least not for this category, and that Lynnfield might end
up branded as Core i7 xx0, let's say 8x0 series.
Since Intel is not telling this to most of its partners, we
can only speculate the brand, but we don’t know it.
Lynnfield 2.93GHz is getting positioned side by side with the Core i7 950 3.06GHz CPU and it is no secret
that the Core i7 950 should end up faster, but probably just slightly. This gives
us an idea that this top speed Lynnfield should be selling for €400+ and this is not
really a bargain.
Naturally, there will be cheaper Lynnfield quad-cores and
you can expect them to penetrate the market at a €200 price mark.
