AMD has started shipping its single-core Athlon LE in and the fastest one, Athlon LE 1660, will stay at 2.8GHz clock speed. The slower iteration Athlon LE 1640 is clocked at 2.7 GHz.

Both Athlon LE’s are based on the Lima core that is developed in 65nm SOI technology, and they fit in socket AM2. Both CPUs have 512KB cache and they fit to 45W TDP. The Athlon LE 1660 will be available at least until Q3 2009, while AMD plans to take the last orders on Athlon LE 1640 at the end of Q4 2008; but the final shipments of this CPU will be made in Q2 2009.

Sempron LE series will also co-exist and this Sparta-based CPU will continue to sell in 2009. At this time, we are not aware of any single cores planned for 45nm and 65nm Sparta / Lima products might be the last stop for single core.
