Announced, but first to ship

Let's get one thing straight right from the start. Apple's iPhone Xs next generation A12 Bionic SoC has been claimed by Apple’s Phil Schiller to be the first on the market. Well, it is the third, as Qualcomm and Huawei have already announced that they sampled or in production of their 7nm Phone SoCs.

It looks like China based smartphone manufacturers are taking 5G very seriously. In  recent weeks, Oppo and Xiaomi showed their versions of high-end phones running 5G NR and now Vivo has done the same.

Qualcomm and Ericsson to blame

The 5G NR standard defined by 3GPP Rel-15 spec has made a giant leap forward. Qualcomm and Ericsson managed to successfully conduct the first 3GPP compliant 5G NR mmWave over the air call with a Mobile Form Factor Device. Try squeeze all that all in a headline.

The parent company of 3Dmark UL and Huawei made a statement about the delisting of the latter's phones and agreed to work with each other to solve the issue.

Most likely for China

Apple already confirmed its plans to have an iPhone event on September 12th and it will tell the market about its upcoming 2018 Intel only modem line up.

No 5G NR form factor devices yet

The IFA consumer trade show has just finished, and we wanted to share a bit about  5G with focus on the big silicon manufacturers. Both Samsung and Huawei didn’t show anything at the show, while both companies reassured us that they will have something later.

Consequences of clear cheating

We’ve seen this happening before in the discrete and mobile GPU world and it looks like Huawei was caught with its pants down cheating on  graphics benchmarking. The result is that UL, owner of 3DMark has delisted Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei Nova 3 and Honor Play.

The press usually relies too much on benchmarks but they at least tell you that a subject A is better or worse than subject B. The recently posted GeekBench of Snapdragon 855 shows that the new 7nm SoC from Qualcomm scores much better than its predecessor.
