Sources
are indicating to us that both Palm Pre and Pixi owners will be getting an
update to webOS version 1.4. Sprint is said to be ready to start the deployment
of the 1.4 webOS update, starting on February 15th.
While
we know very little about what will be contained in the actual upgrade to
version 1.4 of the webOS, what it would seem is that the majority of the
enhancements center on phonebook transfers, messaging and calendars. In
addition, some are whispering that enhancements to the video recording and
editing will be part of this upgrade.
In
many markets, Palm owners have been feeling a bit downhearted, as the carrier
exclusivity has started to lift and other carriers are starting to add the Palm
webOS devices to their lineup. While longtime owners have been through significant
teething pains with their early adopter status as Palm webOS smart phone owners,
it would appear that over the past couple of updates the webOS has gotten much
better and even more stable.
The big question is whether Palm will be able to
continue to compete; and it will need more innovation to do that. Still, for a
company that many considered dead and buried, Palm has made a remarkable
comeback.
