According to Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, Job’s Mob hit pause on the hub because Siri still can’t be trusted to control third-party apps properly. The feature was meant to debut with iOS 18.4 this March, but insiders say the Apple Intelligence extensions need more spit and polish.
Apple software boss Craig Federighi insisted the feature is real and not just “demoware,” claiming it simply “needed more polish for a seamless experience.” This is odd because Internet of Things devices are not woven and don't normally have seams.
The Smart Home Hub, which is said to have a 6 to 7-inch screen, an A18 chip, a FaceTime camera, and a speaker base, won’t be turning up until the Personalised Siri mess is sorted.
The delay reportedly stems from issues with the new version of App Intents, the tech that lets Siri run apps with voice commands. Without it, the voice assistant can barely open a weather app without help.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reckons the display is already in the pipeline, with mass production expected in the third quarter of 2025. The hardware might be ready, but as ever with Job’s Mob, the software’s stuck in a Cupertino limbo.
Anyone still betting on Apple’s AI miracle might want to check the battery on that reality distortion field.
