Learning from its customers
Quanta has been learning from its customers Apple and HP
and now wants to build a smartbook under its own badge.
Quanta Chairman Barry Lam said the big idea is for a
"computer in an iPhone form factor." The smartbook will rely on a 3.5-inch touchscreen display
and will have the ability to make voice calls as well as access the Internet.
Lam said he was currently wining and dining ARM and
Qualcomm to see what chips he should shove under the gizmo's bonnet. Quanta makes about 75 percent of its cash from supplying
notebooks. It is banking on future
growth through cloud computing, where computer data and processing power will be delivered over the
Internet.
No word on when all this glorious new vision will come about.
