LumiRead hits the shops next year
Acer has been showing off its latest ebook reader. LumiRead is DLNA compliant and can share contents like
eBooks and audio-books.
The outfit has signed agreements with Barnes&Noble,
and has access to a million titles in its eBooks store. There is also
Libri.de,
a Germany's leading Internet book retailer offering over 4 Million
titles. French and Italian readers will be able shortly to read
books in their languages, thanks to other agreements that are almost
ready to
be formalized.
The hardware comes with a 6-inch display, it’s only few
millimeters thick and permits to carry an entire library of up to 1,500 books
in just a handful of grams. There is a non-glare, no backlit e-Ink display, it
delivers a paper-like reading experience, even under bright sunlight, which is
more than the iPad can manage. It has 2GB flash memory and can store a thousand of books
and its capacity can be easily expanded just by adding a MicroSD card.
There is also a useful ISBN scanner allows to scan ISBN
codes so you can create your own wish-list and search on supported online
libraries and book stores. It comes with a QWERTY keyboard makes it easy to browse
the web and find and share information on books. The auto-layout automatically
adjusts the content to offer the best reading experience according to the
format. It supports various formats, multiplying users choices, and most
popular DRM (Adobe and OMA2.0).
It looks jolly nice but there is no word on price. It
should be in the shops next year. (Plenty of time for me to upload your novel to Rapidshare sub.ed.)
