AMD torches Chipzilla in CPU sales again

Ryzen 9800X3D flies off shelves as Core Ultra 200S faceplants

AMD’s Ryzen army continues to stomp on Troubled Chipzilla’s silicon dreams, with March 2025 sales figures showing Ryzen chips practically owning Amazon’s CPU charts in the US.

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D remains the poster child for AMD's dominance, selling more than 6,000 units—and closing in on 7,000 once the final tally is released. This single processor is outselling entire stacks of Intel’s newer Core Ultra 200S range.

And it’s not just high-end kit doing the work. The dirt-cheap Ryzen 5 5500, retailing for less than $90, secured the number two spot with over 3,000 units shipped. Even AMD’s older AM4 platform continues to rake in sales, thanks to its impressive price-to-performance reputation.

Intel’s only bright spots were the Core i5 12400F and the i7 12700K, with the latter selling over 1000 units thanks to its 12-core performance at a $234 sweet spot.

The Core Ultra 200S lineup, however, flopped harder than a damp pancake. The best it could muster was the Core Ultra 7 265K, with a measly 500 units shipped—barely a blip on the sales radar.

AMD’s flogged 31,600 units—roughly 78.74 per cent of all March CPU sales on Amazon US—bringing in $7.8 million in revenue. Intel limped behind with 7,500 units and a modest $1.5 million.

Even with the new Ryzen 9000 chips now available, it’s the older Ryzen 5000 and 7000 CPUs that are keeping AMD’s engine roaring. Only the Ryzen 9 9900X broke into the top 10 among the newer lineup, while the Ryzen 5 7600X held the torch for Zen 4 non-X3D chips.
